During Career Expo, approximately 603 8th grade students explored occupations by touring programs at Red River Technology Center and by participating in presentations from local community leaders including representatives from Duncan Regional Hospital, Davis Loafman, Dr. Nick Elroy, Duncan Fire Department, and Mike Breeze. We are thankful for these community partners and their commitment to providing a fun, educational experience for the students. This event inspires young people to plan for their future and to prepare them for the choices they will make during high school by exposing them to different career pathways.

Eighty-nine students were recently honored at Red River Technology Center for their selection into the National Technical Honor Society. The students were recognized during an induction ceremony held Thursday, March 6, at RRTC. Congratulations!

RRTC cosmetology student, Brianna Arellano, placed 1st in the Extemporaneous Speaking category at the Southwest District SkillsUSA Spring Leadership Contest. She will compete in the Oklahoma SkillsUSA Extemporaneous Speaking contest in April. Congratulations, Brianna!
RRTC’s cosmetology students hosted a guest speaker this week in their classroom. Steve Cochran from Icon Shears helped students understand the quality and craftsmanship behind the tools they will use in their profession. It's great that they had the chance to learn directly from someone knowledgeable in the industry!
RRTC night welding student is adding some railing to our local welding supply vendor and partner’s truck. This increases safety when hauling shorter gas cylinders to customers like us. Our student is currently employed with James Supplies as a driver, and saw first-hand how this modification was necessary. Great job!

The February EHCO (Exploring Health Career Opportunities) Lunch meeting at Duncan High School focused on careers in emergency services. Jeff Prater, Red River Technology Center instructor for the Emergency Medical Services program, shared his personal experiences and insights into careers as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Congratulations to Jeremiah Holmes! Jeremiah placed 3rd-post secondary in Automotive Service Technology at the Regional SkillsUSA Competition last week. He will advance to the State SkillsUSA Leadership Competition in April.

RRTC’s Residential Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration students competed last week in the Regional SkillsUSA competition. The students that competed were Caleb Ramsey, Ayden Hinds, Blayden Carpenter, Bryana McKinney, and Paeton Dial. Ayden Hinds placed 1st and Paeton Dial placed 6th in the post-secondary competition. Ayden Hinds will advance to the State SkillsUSA competition in April. Congratulations, students.
