This week, RRTC’s Emergency Medical Services students are getting hands-on with patient packaging, extraction, and backboarding! From safely removing patients from vehicles to mastering spinal motion restriction techniques, students are building the critical skills needed to protect patients and prevent further injury in emergency situations.
These high-impact training scenarios strengthen teamwork, communication, and attention to detail — all essential qualities for future EMS professionals. We’re proud to see our students putting their training into action as they prepare to serve our communities with confidence and care.

RRTC’s Pre-Engineering Academy students tested their mousetrap cars this week—powered by creativity, teamwork, and a little spring-loaded energy. A mousetrap powered car is a vehicle that uses a mouse trap for a motor and a string to transmit force. In this method one end of a string is attached or tied to the arm on the mousetrap and the other end of the string is wound around an axle. By winding the string around the axle, the mouse trap's spring is stretched and now you have your stored energy. As the mousetrap car is released, the mouse trap pulls the string off of the axle, causing the wheels to turn and off the vehicle goes.

RRTC juniors in the Biomedical Science Academy rolled up their sleeves today for a hands-on sheep brain dissection! Sheep brains are commonly used in high school programs because they’re structurally similar to human brains, great for identifying major regions (cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem), and ideal for learning about lobes, hemispheres, and structures like the corpus callosum. Students explored the structures of the brain, identifying major regions and gaining real-world insight into neuroanatomy. Labs like this bring science to life and give our future healthcare professionals invaluable experience beyond the textbook.

RRTC’s Biomedical Science Academy juniors are getting hands-on experience in the world of physical therapy! This week, students explored kinesiology taping techniques, learning how athletic tape can support muscles and joints, reduce inflammation, and improve movement without restricting mobility. Through this activity, our future healthcare professionals applied their knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics while gaining insight into careers in physical therapy, sports medicine, and rehabilitation. Learning by doing makes all the difference!
