Lion’s Club names Students of the Month at RRTC for February

The Duncan Noon Lion’s Club has named Red River Technology Center Pre-Engineering Academy students Haley Smith and Murray Powers as Students of the Month for February.

Haley Smith, a senior at Walters High School, is active in Academic Team, National Honor Society, and 4-H. She also serves as her local 4-H club secretary and the county vice-president. She is also a member of the National Technical Honor Society at Red River Technology Center.

In the community, Smith has volunteered her time decorating Christmas trees at a veterans’ home, visiting children at a local hospital, organizing a school food drive, with the community Trunk-or-Treat, and the Spirit of Survival.

After graduation, Smith plans to attend college but is undecided on her major. She is looking forward to seeing how her education choices guide her career path.

Murray Powers, a homeschool senior from Loco, has been active in the Red River Robotics Club, and National Technical Honor Society at RRTC. He is also actively involved in the county 4-H Teen Leaders club.

In the community, Powers volunteers his time with canned food drives, the Regional Food Bank, the Oklahoma City Rescue Mission, the Jesus House, and has organized a children’s book drive.

After graduation, Powers plans to attend Oklahoma State University and pursue a degree in industrial engineering.
