RRTC hosts Summer Teachers Academy

Red River Technology Center hosted a Summer Teachers Academy on June 1 and 2 that was open to teachers and counselors from across the RRTC district.

Participants spent their time in three of the 14 programs RRTC offers – Health Careers, Welding, and Electronics.

The teachers and counselors took part in hands-on activities as they rotated through the three programs over the one and half day academy.

“My hope is that this academy will help better inform these teachers and counselors as to what we do here,” said RRTC Principal Brook Holding. “Then they can better inform students who may be interested in attending one of these programs.”

Some of the academy activities included learning to use a cutting torch in Welding; assembling an electronic circuit board in Electronics; and working with Anatomy in Clay in Health Careers.

The academy was made available to RRTC partner schools through a career-focused federal grant.

“Our goal is to help connect students and teachers with the opportunities available to our area juniors and seniors,” said RRTC Career Information Specialist Jamie Conway. “We want them to know there is a local option for training that gives students an opportunity to earn higher wages in high-demand jobs following high school graduation.”
