RRTC students make mark at state competitions

Several RRTC students recently returned from the State SkillsUSA competition with a little extra hardware. Congratulations to all students who participated, placed and made RRTC proud!

Auto Service

Two Red River Technology Center Auto Service Technology students recently placed fourth at the Ford/AAA Auto Service Skills contest and each earned $1,000 scholarships to attend the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee. Pictured are Auto Service instructor Don Deal; Billingsley Ford Service Manager David Gammill; Auto Service first-year student Daniel Carroll, a senior at Duncan High School; Auto Service second-year student Raymond Busby, a senior at Walters High School; and Auto Service Instructor Stacy Estes. Carroll and Busby qualified for Ford/AAA contest as a team.  Over 500 auto service students from Oklahoma took a written qualification test in February, with only the top 20 scores competing in the hands-on portion of the competition.  During competition, the students were given a 2012 Ford Mustang that 11 “problems” that each team had to diagnose and repair in 90 minutes.  Billingsley Ford helped the RRTC students train and learn about the new Mustang and has continued to go the extra mile for RRTC students each year.

Electronics

Six Red River Technology Center Electronics Technology students recently placed in the top five of the State SkillsUSA Electronics Competition. Students placing were:

Cory Sullivan, Adult, first place Post-Secondary Division, Electronics Technology; and Brian Clark, a senior at Duncan High School, first place Secondary Division, Electronics Technology. Both will continue on to the National SkillsUSA contest in Kansas City, Missouri, later this summer.

Also placing were: Jeremiah Goodell, a senior at Comanche High School, third place Secodary Division, Electronics Technology; and Kevin Renick, Adult, second place Post-Secondary Division, Electronics Technology. Not pictured, but placing, are: Aaron Holden, a junior at Temple High School, fourth place Secondary Division, Electronics Technology; and William ‘Dex’ Leyrer, Adult, fifth place Post-Secondary, Electronics Technology.

Residential Air Conditioning Technician

Two Red River Technology Center Residential Air Conditioning Technician students recently placed at the State SkillsUSA competition. Students placing were Ricky Curtis, first place, and Chris Smith, tenth place. Both students are juniors at Empire High School. Curtis will continue on to the National SkillsUSA contest in Kansas City, Missouri, later this summer.
